Dear Ron Paul

Preface
I agree with almost all of your platform. We start from the same first principles and end up at many of the same conclusions. I have displayed your bumpersticker and yardsign.

Here's my beef
It is one thing to accept campaign contributions then drop out.
It is another thing altogether to ask those contributors for money AGAIN. What, in your words or demeanor, indicate you'd be willing to press the issue this time? What has changed?

Never thought I'd be quoting Bush, but: "Fool me once; shame on you. Fool me — you can't get fooled again."

  1. His son is now a Senator from my state. I'm interested to see how he does. He seems extreme on some issues, but there are things he says that I find intriguing.

  2. The political albatross carried by the Pauls (father and son) is that they tend to work from First Principles toward conclusions. This is unfamiliar ground to the American electorate who is used to having pols announce their desired position then try to justify it.

I am under no illusion that rigorous thought and fearless discussion are valued by the voters. We are, collectively too invested in identity politics and carve-outs for the privileged (those with "private law"), be they activists, extremists, or corporations.
